I'm not sure if they will be able to remove it now I've aasked for it to be inserted. Is the 9400GT that bad ?

thanksIs this graphics card that bad ? advice please?
hi thomas

when looking at a graphics card you have to evaluate what your gaming requirement are,for example if you like running your games at high resolution and maximum detail then a better graphic card is a must and will be needed to run the latest games

however if you play games maybe once a week and these are older games such as doom3 and quake4 then the geforce 9400gt would actually do a decent job,but for serious gamers you should invest in a more powerful card which will ensure you get the resolution, detail and frame rates you need to run the latest games

in regards to the XFX nVidia GeForce 9600 GT ,well this is a pretty decent card that should run the latest games pretty well, and when to add your other pc,s specifications into the equation then you should be fine

however a few other things to remember, unlike the 9400gt the XFX nVidia GeForce 9600 GT will require a minimum of 450watts (power supply) with at least 24A on the +12v rail

you can find your power supplys specifications by opening your pc case and there will be a label on the side of the power supply like this ( image : http://www.dansdata.com/images/top686p6/鈥?/a> )

you will find all the information you need on this label, however pay special attention to the ';+12v'; rail and the amount of +12v rail(s) as if there is more than one then you need to combine these totals to get a combined total,so in the case of the 9800gt which requires 24A then if you have 2(dual) +12v rails with 15A on each rail then this will be fine

then theres the power connectors, and in the case of the XFX nVidia GeForce 9600 GT it needs a 6pin pci-express power connector like this ( image : http://www.techaddicts.net/reviews/trio6鈥?/a> )

however if you have enough power and all thats stopping you is the lack of a 6pin pci-e connector then dont worry, you will normally get a 4pin molex to 6pin pci-e so you can use any of the masses of 4pin molex connectors that are hanging lose inside your case

if you contact the pc vendor in enough time they should be able to change the graphic card, and since most vendors will be happy to do this as it will be more expensive you shouldnt have any problems, but get in tough as soon as possible

failing that when you receive your pc just buy the card in question and replace the 9400gt with a 9600gt,its a basic procedure and if you get stuck let me know and i will be happy to assist you

you can get a excellent deal on a PALIT NVIDIA 9600GT 1GB from http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component鈥?/a> at these prices you can afford to run a sli configuration

however for around 拢80 you can get the PALIT NVIDIA GTS250 512MB( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component鈥?/a> which is a awesome gaming card with twice the performance and power of the 9600gt....go for it !

i hope this has helped however any problems let me know

good luck thomas !Is this graphics card that bad ? advice please?
Cancel the 9400 and go for the 9600. The 9400 is the low-end of the 9 series while the 9600 is in the mid-range. You can google some of the benchmarks between these two cards and the performance difference is quite big.

P.S.- I'm currently using a 9400 and really regretting the fact that I didn't wait to have enough to buy a 9600/9800 card. The 9400 just runs games at slightly a higher resolution and effects quality than my old X1550 radeon with the little difference in frame rates. So yeah, it sucked.
If this is a pre-built machine being done by Dell, Alienware, etc. My advice would be to get the absolute crappiest card they offer.

Why you ask? Because OEMs jack video card prices way above their actual worth it makes more sense to pay very little if not nothing for the crap they include. The 9400 is the very crappiest card available in the 9 series and a 9800GTX/+ is only a little over 100 dollars right now, that is a steal considering I have been able to Max out every game I have thrown at it so far including Crysis.
I have a 9600 GT and have been able to run pretty much all the latest games on full (plus your pc specs are somewhat better than mine).. I would say the 9600GT is a much better performing card than the 9400GT and I would also say that the 9600GT is the best card on the market in terms of value for money.. If you've already ordered the 9400GT, contact the store and ask if you can make the switch.. It'll definitely be worth it and I'm sure they'll do it for you. If not then it's no big deal.. the 9400GT is still pretty good ;)
9400 GT = CRAP.....no doubt....

the 9600 gt though is an excellent mid range card, theat performs brilliantly for a low price too...definitely 9600
